First Reading

I’m nervous! I’m reading at Moore Books tonight. This is the first time I’ve read from ‘Still Healing’ to anyone outside my writing circles. Likely I won’t have a big audience, probably just my friends, who are coming out of the goodness of their hearts to support me. But I want them to feel that they aren’t wasting their time- I want to pull them into the stories. I want something to resonate.

I’m thankful to the friends who are coming, and to my writing mentor, Alison, who introduced me to Lori Moore, the owner of the bookstore. I’m thankful to my husband, for putting up with my weird hours and the flurries of revisions and the hundred times he’s had to hear the same sentence with a word or a comma changed.

I want my reading to be giving back, not taking more.
